The Daily Dredds 1984

In 1984, forty-two Judge Dredd stories were published in a major national newspaper. This is their tale.

2000AD Prog 415: Free inside! 6 ‘Masters of the Universe’ stickers! Bright eyes… burning like fire! Big prizes to be won in KP Alien Spacers competition!

Halo doesn't meet with an old friend in a bar, Ukko completely fails to comfort Tlachtga and we re-meet Elfric, Primo gets a bit hot-headed, the adviser advises Rogue and Crustacia scuttles off.

2000AD Prog 390: £ivers and Tenners to be Won Every Week! “Biggest collection of oddballs I’ve ever seen… and they’re all JUDGES!” The Wally Squad!

Brett's back, with a slightly more colourful cover than the last (I think it was the On Yer Bike cover for the Haunting of Sector House 9). We've had judges in disguise before, but I think this is the first time we've met those going deep undercover. Tharg's Nerve Centre is all about the storage … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 390: £ivers and Tenners to be Won Every Week! “Biggest collection of oddballs I’ve ever seen… and they’re all JUDGES!” The Wally Squad!

2000AD Prog 389: A Machine? A Myth? Or a Man? A Case for Treatment

Ron Smith gives us a rare multi-panel cover as we focus on the gun, badge, chin and then portrait of Dredd marking the last episode of the Judgement triology. Tharg's Nerve Centre has earthlets interrogate Dredd on a variety of subjects. Unless contradicted in later stories, here's a list of Dredd facts (remember that, as … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 389: A Machine? A Myth? Or a Man? A Case for Treatment

2000AD Prog 388: Future War Games on Nu Earth “My move, G.I.!” SNAP!

Cam Kennedy shows the traitor playing a chess-a-like game with figures of Rogue and the (embodied) biochips in this latest cover. Tharg's Nerve Centre has a lesson in Irish (not about Sláine for a change, but regarding Spud Murphy referring to The Garda instead of The Gardai). Nemesis the Warlock Book IV: The Gothic Empire … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 388: Future War Games on Nu Earth “My move, G.I.!” SNAP!

The Daily Dredds: 1983

The newspaper strips continue in to their third year (and were collected with those from 1981 to 1986 in a hardback edition a few years back). For the sake of logistics, I'm saving these up in to batches for coverage in this blog (it wouldn't exactly be practical to have one episode per day, interspersed … Continue reading The Daily Dredds: 1983

2000AD Prog 284: “Howdy! This here’s a hijack!”

Carlos is back on the cover, along with Mean Machine Angel for the first time in, er, three weeks. Apparently there were stickers given away free with this prog, so Tharg's Nerve Centre tells me. Luckily this hasn't resulted in sticky tape damage on the cover. Sam Slade, Robo-Hunter: Football Crazy Part 2 by Alan … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 284: “Howdy! This here’s a hijack!”

2000AD Prog 244: "Hit them jackers with the old BLAZOOGA, BIFF!" "Hrrum! They never told me space trucking was going to be like this!" It could only happen to… Ace Trucking Co.

Massimo's back - on the cover and in the prog as the long-awaited (well, postponed for a month) Ace Trucking Co starts this prog. In the Nerve Centre we find out that the North American Thril-Sucker exist in vast numbers as there is no 2000AD in the USA to combat them. Judge Dredd: Block Mania … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 244: "Hit them jackers with the old BLAZOOGA, BIFF!" "Hrrum! They never told me space trucking was going to be like this!" It could only happen to… Ace Trucking Co.

2000AD Prog 243: "The game's over, Tallon! You're our target now!" The hunt is on in the Mean Arena!

Mike White (first time on the cover? Yep - and his next one in 36 weeks time will also be on Mean Arena). Tharg tells us in the Nerve Centre that 2000AD (and associated droids) have swept the board at the Eagle Awards with 10 wins! Tharg also asks for more letters saying which character … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 243: "The game's over, Tallon! You're our target now!" The hunt is on in the Mean Arena!

2000AD Prog 237: "One of you generals is a Nort spy… a man who caused a MASSACRE!"

Colin Wilson took over as artist on last prog's Rogue and also provides this week's cover as the blue boy accuses one of the assembled Souther generals of being a Nort spy - but which one? The Nerve Centre has a letter from an earthlet who claims to have been reading since Prog 1, but … Continue reading 2000AD Prog 237: "One of you generals is a Nort spy… a man who caused a MASSACRE!"
